Job Title: Operations Accountant / Cost Accountant

Work Format: Onsite full-time but flexible for some occasional remote work. 45-50 hours per week. Typical business hours schedule with some flexibility for production needs and travel to Brookfield, IL facility (day travel 1-2x/month).
Summary: Reporting to the Controller, the Operations Accountant will be responsible for establishing and maintaining product costs in a standard cost environment, performing monthly inventory reconciliations and analysis, operational spend and performance reviews, participating in month end close processes, and working cross functionally with other departments on projects and continuous improvement initiatives. This person will be a partner to the manufacturing teams, frequently working out on the shop floor alongside operations.

What You'll Do:
- Spend approximately 50% of time on the production floor working with the manufacturing teams to evaluate processes, identify and troubleshoot issues, propose solutions, and proposing opportunities to manage costs and adhere to spend goals.
- Spend approximately 50% of time in an office setting tracking, analyzing, and reporting on financial and operational KPIs / metrics.
- Develop and maintain standard costs, documentation, and records.
- Complete monthly financial close functions including: inventory valuation, inventory reserves, prepaid inventory, accruals and other close tasks as needed.
- Conduct weekly spend and performance review with plant leadership.
- Collect and report on costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory, labor, freight, consumable expenses, and overheads.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Analyze and maintain burden rates for machines, fixed and variable overhead rates.
- Partner with ER Wagner operations team to develop and maintain policies to streamline processes with appropriate financial controls.
- Analyze inventory balances, slow moving inventory, and inventory reserves.
- Participate in plant lean operating improvement projects.
- Participate in budgeting process and analysis.
- Provide support to manufacturing and supply chain functions to improve operations and reduce costs.
- Assist with bank and financial audit deliverables.
- Prepare materials for annual audits such as inventory valuation, balance sheet accounts, etc.
- Provide training to non-financial personnel on company policies and accounting procedures.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and guidelines per the company handbook.
- Perform additional duties and projects as requested.
What We're Looking For:
Experience: We're open to junior to senior level candidates; 2-10+ years' experience desired in Finance / Accounting. Cost accounting experience desired but not required.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Lean Manufacturing, Manufacturing Management, or related degree desired.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, advanced Excel skills and 10-key by touch. ERP experience desired (EMS).
- Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports and correspondence.
