Organization Summary
Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin (GOTR-SEWI) is a nonprofit, youth development program that inspires girls in 3rd–8th grade to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Serving over 3,000 girls annually, the program runs for 8-weeks in the spring and fall with each season ending with a celebratory 5K giving each participant a tangible sense of accomplishment. Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in advancing Girls on the Run’s mission by recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who bring our programs to life. This position manages the full volunteer lifecycle, including outreach, onboarding, engagement, and retention strategies, while ensuring a positive and rewarding experience for all volunteers. The role also collaborates with community partners and maintains volunteer records and communications.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, highly organized, people-centered, and passionate about empowering girls and fostering community involvement through volunteerism.
Key Responsibilities:
Volunteer Engagement & Relationship Building
Serve as the primary point of contact for all non-coach volunteers, providing timely and clear communication.
Lead a volunteer communication plan to keep individuals engaged, appreciated, and informed of upcoming opportunities.
Coordinate volunteer support and logistics for major events including the 5Ks, Sneaker Soirée, Golf Outing, and other public-facing events.
Steward volunteers through meaningful recognition, engagement efforts, and consistent relationship-building.
Operations & Systems Management
Manage the full intake process for all non-coach volunteers in accordance with Girls on the Run policies.
Oversee volunteer registration, background checks (via Unique Background Solutions), and onboarding procedures.
Use Pinwheel software to set up, update, and manage volunteer opportunities and recruitment events.
Coordinate and track all volunteer-related tasks and deadlines using the Asana project management system.
Outreach & Community Partnerships
Recruit and train volunteers for Girls on the Run events and community outreach opportunities.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners, local clubs, women’s groups, businesses, and other organizations to grow the volunteer network.
Attend or organize recruitment events and develop partnerships that align with the mission and values of Girls on the Run.
Proactively seek out new volunteer pipelines with a focus on diversity, inclusion, and long-term engagement.
Qualifications & Skills
Passion for the mission and vision of Girls on the Run, and a desire to make a positive impact on youth.
Ability to serve as a role model, demonstrating Girls on the Run’s core values in all interactions.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, particularly in nonprofit, volunteer management, or youth-focused organizations.
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.) required; experience with project management tools like Asana is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with peers, volunteers, and families from diverse backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and capable of working independently and collaboratively with limited supervision.
Highly organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Schedule Requirements
This is a part-time, hourly position averaging approximately 10 hours per week, with the need to increase up to 20 hours during peak periods, specifically in November and May.
While the schedule is flexible, the role requires the ability to check email regularly, attend Wednesday weekly staff meetings, and be available for occasional evening and weekend events such as coach training, the Sneaker Soirée, Golf Fore Girls, and Girls on the Run 5Ks.
Vacation blackout periods: 5K events, Sneaker Soiree, and TBD GOTR special events.
Compensation/Benefits Information:
Part-Time position
Salary range $21-23/per hour
